Ethnic cleansing is the systematic forced removal of ethnic or religious groups from a given territory to make it ethnically or religiously homogeneous through mass deportations, intimidation, or mass murder. When one thinks of ethnic cleansing in historical context, they likely recognize the Turkish attempt to exterminate Armenians, Nazi Germany’s genocide of European Jews, and America’s forced removal and mass murder of Native Americans as prime examples of ethnic cleansing. However, according to one angry racist Republican, the start of ethnic cleansing is when an African American President takes executive action on immigration enforcement to create a Socialism-loving brown population.
Last Sunday, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach (R) issued a dire warning that President Obama’s executive action on immigration, coupled with “general lawlessness,” could lead to a “Hispanic majority in the U.S. conducting an ethnic cleansing.” Kobach has never made any attempt to conceal his contempt for immigrants, or his ardent support for nasty xenophobes in the racist anti-immigrant movement. Accordingly, Kobach claimed that the devious strategy behind the President’s executive action on immigration enforcement is to ethnically cleanse the nation of American voters and replace them with socialism-loving Hispanic ones.
Kobach said, “The long term strategy of replacing American voters with illegal aliens (undocumented immigrants) in favor of bigger government, if looked at it through an ethnic lens, locks in socialism.” In a response to a caller on his radio show pondering the existential threat to the white race from immigrants and President Obama, Kobach agreed “that things are, things are strange, and they’re happening.” He said, “What used to protect ‘us’ in America from any kind of ethnic cleansing is the rule of law, of course. And the rule of law used to be unassailable, used to be taken for granted in America. And now, of course, we have a President who disregards the law when it suits his interests. And, so, while I normally would answer that of course we have the rule of law, that (ethnic cleansing) could never happen in America, I have to admit that they’re happening.”
Kobach means things like ethnic cleansing are happening to advance Hispanic people’s devotion to creating a socialistic America. The idea of socialism is just another fear mongering ploy nearly as absurd as immigration enforcement action is the precursor to ethnic cleansing to replace “American” voters with “illegal alien” voters. First, socialism is “a way of organizing a society in which all major industries, banks, and property are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies.” Most Americans are too intrinsically ignorant, or cognition incapable, of comprehending exactly what socialism entails or they would slap and spit in a Republican’s face every time they uttered the term.
Conservatives have attempted to frighten Americans with the threat of socialism going back to the abolition of slavery. After the end of slavery, conservatives invoked the “dreaded socialism” to oppose every kind of reform regardless the issue to inspire opposition to the federal government; something they have continued to perpetuate up to the present. It became particularly virulent when social reforms of the early 20th Century were proposed by Theodore Roosevelt and, particularly, Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s reforms in the New Deal. Even the ban on child labor was, as one Senator claimed a devious plot to “place socialism into the flesh and blood of Americans.” When Franklin D. Roosevelt advocated for the worker protections and particularly the worker-funded Social Security system to provide a semblance of security in old age, the American Medical Association (AMA) accused Roosevelt of enacting “compulsory socialism” on the people. Social Security is, by design of Congress, entirely employee-funded and prohibited from taking one penny from the government; definitely not socialism.
Republicans seriously ramped up their use of the “dire threat of Socialism” when then-president Lyndon Johnson began pushing for the enactment of Medicare; the worker-funded health insurance system for the elderly. At the time, b-movie actor Ronald Reagan (not a politician) was paid to assail the Medicare proposal as “The traditional method of imposing statism or socialism on a people by way of medicine.” As an aside, the sole socialistic program in America is the Veteran’s Healthcare system; not Medicare, not Social Security, or any other government program; only the V.A. Healthcare system.
If Americans were not so woefully ill-informed, or stupid, about nearly any subject Republicans use to frighten them silly, Republican cretins like Kobach would never use terms like ethnic cleansing or socialism; much less in relation to a President’s executive action on immigration enforcement. But a majority of Americans are ignorant, uniformed, plainly stupid, and paralyzed by fear that is the only reason there is a viable a Republican movement; a movement that needs to be cleansed out of government.
