Another breach of presidential security was revealed to have occurred last week when a fake congressman was allowed backstage at an Obama event.
An unidentified man posing as a member of Congress made it into a secure area backstage at President Barack Obama’s appearance at a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation awards dinner in Washington Sept. 27, according to a White House official.
The man entered the backstage area during or just after Obama’s speech at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center as members of Congress gathered there to have their pictures taken with the president, said the official, who asked for anonymity to discuss the incident, which has not previously been made public.
Yesterday, it was revealed that a member of the Secret Service leaked President Obama’s schedule before it was made public to Mitt Romney’s campaign in 2012. This scandal has blown up to unimaginable proportions. Each of these incidents from the intruder who got into the White House to shots being fired at the White House add up to a widespread and systemic issue with presidential security
When the VA scandal broke, Congress acted quickly. There is no excuse for Congress to drag their feet now. Beyond hearing, legislation must be passed that will allow immediate reform of the Secret Service, and a comprehensive review of presidential security. The nation is failing to protect the president. Previous incidents has shown that the president isn’t even safe in the White House.
This can’t wait until after the November elections. President Obama needs to call Congress back into session immediately, so that this vital national security issue can be dealt with.
