When Speaker of the House John Boehner was asked about Sarah Palin’s call for President Obama to be impeached, he answered with a frown and two words, “I disagree.”
Video:
Boehner was asked about Palin’s comments that the president should be impeached because of the influx of child immigrants on the Southern border. He replied with a cold, “I disagree.”
Palin mocked the lawsuit last night on Fox News’ Hannity, “The one tool they have are articles of impeachment. Let’s get going on that, and it is not necessarily, Sean, a lawsuit being filed by Congress, because you don’t bring a lawsuit to a gunfight. There is no place for lawyers on the frontline. Where are the front lines in America? They are our borders.”
Boehner handled Sarah Palin’s desperate cries for attention perfectly. One of the main reasons why Sarah Palin hates President Obama so much is that he ignores her. Speaker Boehner also understands that one should never feed the Palin bridge troll by engaging with her.
The issue for the Speaker is that Palin’s comments do represent what many in his own party are saying. The calls for impeachment are getting louder on the far right, so it is interesting to note that Boehner’s narrow answer can be interpreted in a few different ways. He could have been disagreeing on the general idea of impeaching the president, or he could have been disagreeing with Palin’s specific point that Obama should be impeached over the immigration issue.
If his party pushes him hard enough, I have no doubts that Boehner would support impeaching Obama. If anything the Speaker of the House was trying to distance himself and his lawsuit from Sarah Palin. Most likely though, Boehner is operating on one of the tried and true axioms of American politics. If Sarah Palin supports something, it must be an awful idea.
Boehner has been suggesting for months that impeachment isn’t off the table, so how is going to differentiate his crazy from her crazy? The involvement of Sarah Palin has just turned the whole lawsuit/path to impeachment into a road littered with landmines for Grand Old Party.
Palin has been put in her place as Boehner wouldn’t give her attempt to destroy the Republican Party more than a two-word response.
