The Law Firm That Cleared Chris Christie Donated $10 K to Republicans and 0 to Democrats

The same law firm that cleared Gov. Chris Christie of any wrongdoing in Bridgegate also donated $10,000 to the Christie headed Republican Governors Association this year, while donating nothing to Democrats.

According to The Record:

Nine days before a team of its top lawyers made public a report clearing Governor Christie in the George Washington Bridge scandal, the law firm donated $10,000 to the Republican Governors Association, a group he heads.

The law firm’s California office appears to make regular contributions to the GOP group, which Christie has credited with helping him get elected in 2009. Many companies make annual contributions to the Republican Governors Association and its Democratic counterpart to gain access to events the governors attend.

Gibson Dunn has not yet donated to the Democratic Governors Association this year and did not make contributions to the group in 2013 or 2012.

It was widely known that Christie’s own investigation was a sham, but it looks like the governor isn’t even trying to keep up the pretense of objectivity. You would think that the law firm and the sitting governor of New Jersey would be smart enough to collectively come up with the idea that giving $10,000 to the association that the is being chaired by the focus of your investigation might not look so good, so maybe cool it on the RGA donations for a bit?

Gov. Christie must think that people really are that stupid.

It is bad enough that New Jersey taxpayers footed the bill for his bogus investigation, but it seems that Christie and his attorneys are rubbing it in the faces of the very people whom he harmed with Bridgegate.

The bridge scandal is the most publicly resonant of Christie’s problems, but the investigation in how the governor handled Sandy relief funds could be the most damaging.

The investigation that cleared Christie was an even bigger joke than anyone could have imagined, and the scandal plagued governor is demonstrating that he is nearly as bad at damage control as he is at covering up his crimes.
