Ted Cruz Shows He’s A Follower And Not A Leader By Repeating Tired Talking Points At CPAC

Currently, conservatives are basking in their own bigotry and narrow-mindedness as CPAC has come around again. The Conservative Political Action Conference is being held near Washington, D.C. this year and, as always, it is the right-wing’s favorite time of year. It is where they can all gather and rip on liberals and Democrats. It is supposed to be where the GOP’s new ideas for the coming year and elections are brought to the forefront. But, we all know that the GOP never has any new ideas, so it is really just used as an excuse to make derogatory remarks about President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Or to bow down to their NRA masters.

On Thursday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) took to the stage to give a speech that was most assuredly going to be him repeating some of the tired old nuggets he’s been carting around since being elected to the Senate. Basically, everyone knew that he was going to rail against Obamacare and call it the biggest job killer in the nation’s history. You knew he was going to deride President Obama’s economic policies and state that less regulation and lower taxes were the cure-alls and the path to prosperity. This much was all a given.

However, besides repeating the same-old/same-old from his well-used playbook, Cruz decided to jump on board with the rest of the Republican Party and parrot the talking point of the moment. Below is what Cruz had to say at CPAC.

“Putin would not be acting with this level of aggression if it were not for the consistent weakness and appeasement of our enemies of President Obama. Bullies and tyrants do not respect weakness, and it that weakness that invites—Putin is all but openly laughing at the President.”

Much like neo-con war horses like Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham or a GOP ‘wonk’ like Rep. Paul Ryan, Cruz is just repeating the new phrase of the day for Republicans. Essentially, he’s just jumping on board and saying the same things any number of Republicans and conservative pundits have thrown out there lately about Obama being ‘weak.’ He’s not setting an agenda or pushing forward his own opinions. He’s just parroting lines with the hopes that it will get a reaction out of the war hawks and Obama haters out there.

Cruz doesn’t even know what he represents, other than doing whatever it takes to further the personal profile of Ted Cruz. The Tea Party, at least in Ron Paul’s vision, is supposed to be about isolationism and limited foreign policy. Essentially, the whole Tea Party philosophy is supposed to be to decrease spending and shrinking the government. One way of doing this is to reduce military expenditures and stay out of all foreign affairs. Basically, just have a national defense force to secure borders and and take care of domestic issues. No more bases in other countries.

Of course, Cruz doesn’t care about any real philosophy. He is just trying to appeal to the bigots and uneducated masses that feel that the government is the root of all of their problems and that it is despicable that we have a black President. Therefore, he will say whatever is convenient at the time, even if it contradicts what he’s supposed to represent or believe.
