Just when you thought Fox News had hit rock bottom, Laura Ingraham bore even deeper into the depths of stupidity of unimaginable proportion. Ingraham called Puerto Ricans immigrants…huh?
On her radio show, Ingraham said Sotomayor’s “allegiance obviously goes to her [Puerto Rican] immigrant family background and not to the Constitution of the United States.” Again I say huh?
According to Wikipedia:
officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (Spanish: Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico), is an unincorporated territory of the United States, located in the northeastern Caribbean east of the Dominican Republic and west of both the United States Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
Puerto Ricans are United States Citizens and are NOT immigrants. What is so hard to comprehend? I could understand a child making a mistake, thus a teacher would correct the faux pas, but a reporter making this statement as a matter of fact?
OK. Let’s assume that this was a simple mistake. That Ingraham was probably asleep during her geography classes and not assume that she thinks Puerto Ricans are Mexicans “hopping the border”. Well here is a little lesson on geography and for those who watch or listen to Ingraham, please pay attention. Here is a list of territories of the U.S. in the Americas and Asia courtesy of Wikipedia:
Guam
Northern Mariana Islands
Puerto Rico
United States Virgin Islands
American Samoa
Bajo Nuevo Bank
Baker Island
Howland Island
Jarvis Island
Johnston Atoll
Kingman Reef
Midway Islands
Navassa Island
Serranilla Bank
Though most of these territories are either in the Caribbean or Pacific, they are all U.S. citizens and they do NOT need a passport to come to the U.S. As a matter of fact, they do not need to go through customs. They are all U.S. citizens.
One of the requirements my mother went through while a citizen of Japan (she’s naturalized, which means U.S. citizen) was to take a world geography class. She knew, like many immigrants and liberals know that the above mentioned territories are part of the U.S. She immigrated from Japan after graduating high school.
It’s really depressing when U.S. citizens know nothing about geography or civics and are given a platform to scream their lack of education on T.V. or the radio, then have it heard or seen worldwide on the Internet. It’s quite embarrassing.
The SCOTUS is an immigrant…I am sickened by this. Oh and finally, since we are on the topic of geography, did you know that North America is not just reserved for Canada or the United States but that Mexico, the Caribbean Islands, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama are also all AMERICANS! I hope Laura Ingraham learns from her stupidity, because the more she speaks, the lower the collective I.Q. of the United States drops.
