Out Of Excuses Fox Hits Rock Bottom By Calling Chris Christie Masculine and Muscular

Fox News knows how to expand the GOP tent. Now they’re blaming women for Chris Christie’s troubles, with Brit Hume saying today on Fox News’ Media Buzz that Christie is masculine and muscular, which is a “risk” in today’s “feminized” atmosphere.

Apparently Brit Hume thinks it’s masculine and muscular to be petty and vindictive. This could explain a lot.

Watch Brit Hume make a fool of himself on the January 12 edition of Fox News’ Media Buzz here via Media Matters:

Transcript from Media Matters:

HOST HOWARD KURTZ : So what about this bully narrative [surrounding Chris Christie]?

FOX SENIOR POLITICAL ANALYST BRIT HUME: Well, I would have to say that in this sort of feminized atmosphere in which we exist today, guys who are masculine and muscular like that in their private conduct, kind of old fashion(ed) tough guys, run some risk.

FOX CONTRIBUTOR LAUREN ASHBURN: Feminized?

KURTZ: Feminized.

HUME: Atmosphere.

KURTZ: By which you mean?

HUME: By which I mean that men today have learned the lesson the hard way that if you act like a kind of an old fashioned guy’s guy, you’re in constant danger of slipping out and saying something that’s going to get you in trouble and make you look like a sexist or make you look like you seem thuggish or whatever. That’s the atmosphere in which he operates. This guy is very much an old fashioned masculine, muscular guy, and there are political risks associated with that. Maybe it shouldn’t be, but that’s how it is.

Ah, yes. You see? This feminized atmosphere in which people object to elected politicians putting citizens lives’ at risk over petty retribution schemes is the real problem.

In the Idealized World of Fox News, where men can be the “tough guys” conservatives imagine themselves to be if only feminized atmospheres weren’t keeping them down, shutting down a bridge to get back at people is just part of being a man. This is what men do. They aren’t full of honor and dignity like Jimmy Stewart. Oh, gosh, no. Real men bully teachers and shut down bridges like Chris Christie.

It is naturally assumed that “feminized atmospheres” are not a good thing because apparently real men can’t operate well within feminized atmospheres. If only the women of America weren’t destroying the tough guys of America, this would all have been okay and Christie would have a great career ahead of him! Ladies, let this be a lesson to you to stop ruining conservatives’ manliness by reminding everyone that you exist. Hush up, for the love of freedom.

To sum up Fox News values, teachers are bad “thugs” because they want to be paid something decent (see Fox on the Wisconsin protests), but men like Chris Christie are good “thugs” who are misunderstood because they are old-fashioned tough guys. Only the latter is admirable. Maybe if teachers started putting people at risk, Brit Hume could admire them. But as it is, only real men like Chris Christie are admirable.

So there’s Fox, broadening that GOP tent again by blaming women for society finding Chris Christie’s actions unacceptable. If only we weren’t so darn feminized.

I hate to be a drag by “feminizing” up this atmosphere with my thoughts, but would a real old-fashioned tough guy shut down lanes in a bridge to get back at someone? That seems a bit passive aggressive and pathetic, really. As if the bully is afraid to stand on his own two feet and fight his battles fairly, out in the open.

Brit Hume is saying that Chris Christie is so weak that he can’t function in a “feminized” atmosphere. He apparently needs special treatment in order to function, and the real problem here is not his behavior, but the judging of his behavior by people with “feminized” standards.

Curse you women for your values and your feminizing of things! This is all your fault. And no, this is not an example of the War on Women , it’s just that Republicans only like a certain kind of woman.
