Rep. Gary Miller Tried to Pass Off Arkansas as a Foreign Country to DREAMers

One of CREW’s “Most Corrupt” members of Congress in 2010 appears to also be one of its most ignorant.

Rep. Gary Miller (R-CA), whose district covers most of southern and western San Bernardino County, told DREAMers that he get’s it, because he is from Arkansas and came ‘here’ when he was a year old.

What else can you expect from the man who has been misleading the public about his 7 weeks of “service” in the Army throughout his entire career.

Watch Rep. Gary Miller speak with DREAMers on August 23 via the House Majority PAC‘s video, uploaded on the 27th here:

The Republican representative told the DREAMer activist, “I understand the difficulty… I was born in Arkansas. I came here when I was a year old.”

Miller was born in Huntsville, Arkansas, which is still a part of the United States of America.

“Here” is California, which while it might seem like all of America to those of us lucky enough to enjoy its endless sunshine, is just one of the 50 states. Arkansas would be another of the 50 states.

In 2010, Miller called the DREAM Act an “assault” to the American dream, “All in all, the DREAM Act is an assault to the American Dream and rewards those that have not played by the rules. I am fighting hard against this legislation–Americans deserve no less.”

Of course, he’s the same guy who claimed it was an honor to have “served” his country in the U.S. Army, when in fact, he was discharged after seven weeks of boot camp at Fort Ord:

According to his bio page at Congress.org, which is published by the CQ-Roll Call Group, Miller served in the military between 1967 and 1968. The same information about Miller appears on a variety of other websites, including at the American Legion and Project Vote Smart, where it specifies that he served in the U.S. Army.

The Vietnam War was at its peak during the 1967-1968 period; to claim that you served during that period offers the suggestion that you saw combat or were at least deployed overseas, in the same way that saying you served in the Army in 1943 to 1944 would suggest World War II experience.

Miller never got anywhere near Vietnam. According to his military record, he spent about seven weeks in boot camp at Fort Ord, California between early-September and late-October 1967, at which point he was discharged.

Proving just how disingenuous he is, Miller also said, “The leadership skills which I experienced in the U.S. Army allow me to take the lead on issues which promote a stronger defense.” It seems Mr. Miller is a serial exaggerator who may or may not understand what the borders of this country represent and where they are located.

The House Majority is a PAC “focused on holding Republicans accountable and helping Democrats win seats in the House.” This certainly fits that goal.

Republicans “get it” because they’re from the South, y’all! They know all about immigratin’ to the big America of California.
