Donald Trump Goes Birther on Ted Cruz and Questions His Eligibility To Be President

Last updated on July 17th, 2023 at 06:04 pm

Donald Trump is still claiming that Obama wasn’t born in the United States, but for good measure questioned Republican Sen. Ted Cruz’s eligibility to be president too.

Video from ABC News:

After saying that he still wasn’t sure if Obama was born in the United States, Donald Trump turned his birther gaze towards Republican Sen. Ted Cruz:

KARL: Let me ask you this, Ted Cruz born in Canada is he elibile to be President of the United States?

TRUMP: Well if he was born in Canada, perhaps not. I’m not sure where he was born.

KARL: He was definitely born in Canada.

TRUMP: Ok, well then you’ll have to ask him that question, but perhaps not.

KARL: Ted Cruz’s mother was American citizen, he was an American.

TRUMP: Look, that will be ironed out. I don’t know the circumstances. I heard somebody tell me that he was born in Canada. That’s really his thing.

How come when it is Ted Cruz’s eligibility to be president being discussed Trump thinks it is just something to be ironed out, but Obama’s citizenship has turned into a years long conspiracy theory that will not die? It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the fact that Obama is an African-American Democrat could it?

Trump really didn’t do Cruz any favors with his answer to the question about his eligibility to be president. One can almost see the birther whispers being used against Cruz in the 2016 Republican primary if he decides to run. The same birther paranoia that Republicans ginned up against Obama, will almost certainly be used against Ted Cruz.

Donald Trump could have categorically denied that Cruz’s presidential eligibility was even an issue, but the racism is too strong in The Donald to ever support a Republican candidate with the last name of Cruz. However, Trump did tip his hand on who he would be supporting in 2016 when he called Chris Christie wonderful.

You know it’s August and things are slow when the Sunday shows devote airtime to Donald Trump, but the bankrupt billionaire did manage to fuel the whisper campaign against Ted Cruz.

It’s just another day in the conspiracy laced world of Republican politics.
