Confused Republican ‘Wacko Bird’ Amash Pecks Back at John McCain

This party is apparently just getting started. Yesterday, Senator John McCain’s (R-AZ) scatter shot self-righteous indignation lasered in on Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) and his Republican/Tea Party cheerleaders as all hell broke loose on the right . Sane Republicans were not impressed with Sen Rand Paul’s filibuster.

McCain took it further in an interview with Huffington Post, in which he called Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Representative Justice Amash (R-MI) “wacko birds”.

“They were elected, nobody believes that there was a corrupt election, anything else,” McCain said. “But I also think that when, you know, it’s always the wacko birds on right and left that get the media megaphone.”

“I think it can be harmful if there is a belief among the American people that those people are reflective of the views of the majority of Republicans. They’re not,” he continued.

I asked McCain to clarify who, specifically, he was talking about.

“Rand Paul, Cruz, Amash, whoever,” McCain said.

Amash pecked back at McCain, using Obama as the weapon of character assassination (no real argument needed, just playground insults please), tweeting “Sen McCain called @SenRandPaul @SenTedCruz & me “wacko birds.” Bravo, Senator. You got us. Did you come up with that at #DinnerWithBarack?”:

Character assassination is the slandering of a person, usually with the intention of destroying public confidence in that person. So Amash thinks that he successfully slandered John McCain just by pointing out that the US Senator had dinner with the US President. Not only is that part of the Senator’s job, but earth to Amash, the President has much higher approval ratings than Congressional Republicans, so this is a double fail among the sane.

In Amash’s warped vision of the world, having dinner with the President is the worstest ever criticism! Who cares that the sequester cuts will go into actual effect in less than 30 days and by accounts of reality based people, they will be bad for the economy. Screw the economy. Amash really burned McCain by accusing him of doing his job. Wacko birds would NEVER have dinner with the President (and yet, they line up like eager boy scouts to get near him when the cameras are rolling). Wacko birds are very busy trying to repeal the ACA and kill unemployment extensions (Amash ran on both and has failed to deliver on both).

This is a tacit admission that Tea Party Amash does not believe his job description as a representative includes actually getting things done, because in order to get anything done, an elected representative must talk to the other side. Amash is obviously confused about his job description.

John McCain has his own set standards that no one can possibly predict or understand. He’s a wild card — sometimes allowing his obsession with this President to get the better of his judgement — but then, we get a glimpse of the McCain who tried to set his party on the right path to no avail. John McCain’s biggest challenges have always been his temper and temperament. It’s not that McCain is never right; it’s that you never know what he’s basing his principles upon — from the outside, it’s random scatter shots of inconsistencies. But he is right that the Tea Party is the wrong direction for the Republican Party.

But then, John McCain is partly responsible for the rise of the Tea Party via his VP pick of Sarah Palin. Somehow he managed to miss the “wacko bird” inside of her, leaving us all perplexed. “Pallin’ around with terrorists” is okay, but filibustering over an imaginary drone question is not. Okay, then.

Please proceed, wacko birds.
