Speaker Boehner claimed today that President Obama is using the troops as props, but his House passed sequester would leave thousands of veterans homeless.
Here is a clip from Boehner’s press conference:
The Speaker said, “Instead of using our military men and women as campaign props, if the president was serious he’d sit down with Harry Reid and begin to address our problems. The House has acted twice, we shouldn’t have to act a third time before the Senate begins to do their work.”
Boehner is still trying to spin the sequester as belonging to Obama when both the physical evidence, and historical record show that the sequester is the lovechild that sprang from the ideological loins of Boehner, Ryan, and the rest of the House Republican leadership.
It is interesting that Boehner would bring up the troops in any way, because according to the White House fact sheet on the impact of the sequester, “More than 100,000 formerly homeless people, including veterans, would be removed from their current housing and emergency shelter programs, putting them at risk of returning to the streets.”
Speaker Boehner accuses Obama of using the troops as props, while the sequester that he got passed through the House would leave them homeless.
The House Republicans have put themselves in a position of having to argue against the sequester spending cuts, when their entire ideology has been based on spending cuts since Barack Obama came into office. The only card they have left to play is to blame the president, which is the same card they always play, so they really have no cards to play.
House Republican should realize that if they would have done their jobs properly, and passed a sequester replacement that could also pass the Senate, they wouldn’t find themselves in the weak position that they are in today. Boehner’s calls for Obama and Reid to act are an admission of his inability to get anything done. John Boehner has admitted his own incompetence by cutting his caucus out of the process. In essence, Boehner was admitting that he can’t get anything serious passed.
John Boehner’s attempt to bring the troops into the discussion is another Republican sequester blame game fail.
