Sorry Mitt, Science Not God Saved Ann Romney’s Smoking Airplane

Last updated on September 25th, 2012 at 11:49 pm

As the plane Ann RMoney was flying in came to its final approach, smoke filled the airplane from a small electrical fire. Thank goodness the quick-thinking pilots successfully land the crippled airliner with no one hurt. Ann’s husband Willard chimed in and expressed his thoughts about the flight.

According to The Los Angeles Times,

Romney’s wife, Ann, was in attendance, and the candidate spoke of the concern he had for her when her plane had to make an emergency landing Friday en route to Santa Monica because of an electrical malfunction.

“I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” Romney said. “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.”

First of all, Willard did not thank the quick-thinking of the pilots landing the plane at Santa Monica Airport, but said, “I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes…”

The reason why Willard’s idea of rolling the window down is idiotic is because the cabin is pressurized. The reason it’s pressurized is to make sure that the comfort-level of the passenger is comparable to that of being at sea level. The air at sea level is about 14.7 PSI (pounds per square inch).

Now as you go up, the air pressure is dropped. If the cabin isn’t pressurized, passengers can suffer the following ailment:

Hypoxia. The low partial pressure of oxygen at an altitude reduces the alveolar oxygen tension in the lungs and subsequently in the brain, leading to sluggish thinking, dimmed vision, loss of consciousness, and ultimately death.

Altitude sickness. Hyperventilation, the body’s most common response to hypoxia, does help to partially restore the partial pressure of oxygen in the blood, but it also causes carbon dioxide (CO2) to out-gas, raising the blood pH and inducing alkalosis.

Decompression sickness. The low local partial pressure of gases, principally nitrogen (N2) but including all other gases, may cause dissolved gases in the bloodstream to precipitate out, resulting in gas embolism or bubbles in the bloodstream. The mechanism is the same as for compressed-air divers on ascent from depth.

Barotrauma. As the aircraft climbs or descends, passengers may experience discomfort or acute pain as gases trapped within their bodies expand or contract. The most common problems occur with air trapped in the middle ear (aerotitus) or paranasal sinuses by a blocked Eustachian tube or sinuses. Pain may also be experienced in the gastrointestinal tract or even the teeth (barodontalgia

Had the plane had the capability to “lower its windows” to allow the smoke out of the cabin, Ann would have suffered these symptoms and died. The pressure exiting the cabin would have sucked out all the air pressure and Ann would have suffocated.

This is the logic of Mitt RMoney, and Ann would have ended up in Kolob. Or maybe not. Why? Because of Ann’s role as a lobbyist. The LDS are against the Equal Rights for women.

As women have their roles in the home:

12. What does the Church teach about the particular responsibilities of fathers and mothers

Our Creator has especially suited fathers and mothers, through physical and emotional differences, to fulfill their own particular parental responsibilities. Legislation that could blur those roles gives cause for concern.

see p. 11

So I guess Ann won’t end up in Kolob with her kids and Willard…and people want to vote for Willard for president?
