In a new ad, Obama for America uses Romney’s attacks on the 47% against him. A narrator says, “He won’t release his tax returns before 2010. Maybe instead of attacking others on taxes, Romney should come clean on his.”
Watch here:
Voiceover:
“Mitt Romney attacked 47% of Americans who pay no income tax– including veterans, elderly, the disabled.”
Mitt Romney:
“My job is not to worry about those people.”
Voiceover:
“Doesn’t the President have to worry about everyone? Mitt Romney paid just 14.1% in taxes last year. He keeps millions in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. He won’t release his tax returns before 2010. Maybe instead of attacking others on taxes, Romney should come clean on his.”
Upon Mitt Romney releasing his “tax summary”, Alex Castellanos, a former Mitt Romney strategist from 2008, told Politico, “At first I thought this was an April Fool’s Joke.” It’s time for the press to ask Mitt Romney about what he won’t show us. For example, Huffington Post raised a troubling question:
His disclosure of his 2010 account omitted information about his Swiss bank account at the Union Bank of Switzerland (UBS). Why is the press not asking for this form? UBS was fined $760 million for putting Americans into abusive tax shelters and forced to reveal more than 4000 Americans who banked with them under numbered accounts.
The 4000+ Americans who were exposed by UBS were offered amnesty from criminal prosecution for tax evasion if they closed their Swiss Account, recalculated and paid all back taxes and paid a 25 percent penalty on the largest amount.
Romney closed his UBS account in the time required. He did not close his other foreign accounts.
Mitt Romney told 60 Minutes that it’s all about “trust”. How can we trust him if he won’t come clean with us? We already know he disdains us as victims because allegedly we don’t pay taxes, which only proves how little he understands about Americans’ lives.
Mitt Romney isn’t going to worry about “those people” — those “victims” — our veterans, our grandparents, and our disabled friends and family. He wrote them off because they allegedly don’t pay taxes (not true). Yet, Mitt Romney won’t even show us ten years of full tax returns and his lawyer has already admitted that he manipulated his 2011 returns to match with an earlier claim he made that he always paid at least 13%.
Yesterday Mitt Romney blamed Obama for his flailing campaign, but it’s obvious that the trouble isn’t Mitt Romney’s campaign manager or President Barack Obama. No, the problem is Mitt Romney.
This ad is a swing state sledgehammer. Obama is just going to kick back, while making Mitt Romney run against Mitt Romney’s mouth.
