Mitt Romney wants an apology! Or, rather, in Mittese, he is ordering Obama to get Democrats to “cease and desist” saying mean things. He is very, very offended by “Obama’s supporters” using Nazi references, because everyone knows Nazi references are best left to Republicans who have been calling Obama Hitler himself for four long, tiring years.
Read these words and pretend they don’t come from Mitt Romney of “Anglo-Saxon” birther-adjacent, welfare to work lies, because if you put them in context they make the Romney campaign kinda silly. From The Hill:
“The latest offender is Dick Harpootlian, the South Carolina Democratic Party chairman, whose outrageous words I will not repeat,” said former Sen. Norm Coleman (Minn.) in a statement released by the Romney campaign. “In recent days, we’ve seen similarly disgraceful statements from a top Kansas Democratic delegate and from the chairman of the California Democratic Party.
“President Obama has called for civility in American politics. If his call is to be taken seriously, it’s time for the President to rein in those of his supporters and allies who are trivializing Nazism while also shamelessly trampling on the most basic rules of American political discourse.”
Mitt Romney is second only to Sarah Palin in sniffing out possible reasons to be poutraged, and like Palin, he can find that truffle three feet under. No poutrage will go unused, no matter how obscure. Sure, this person is not a mainstream media pundit like say Rush Limbaugh, who called Democratic and liberal women FemiNazis again today. Of course, we’ve been told that we are not allowed to be insulted by being called a real Nazi. This is Republican “entertainment”!
What is so not entertainment is when some no one (chairman of the Democratic Party in South Carolina – he might as well not exist, sorry SC) with no national platform likens the behavior of Nikki Haley to Eva Braun, the mistress of Hitler: “She was down in the bunker à la Eva Braun,” he said, referencing Haley’s Republican ability to hide from the masses and the press.
Not quite the same thing as calling Haley Hitler or drawing a moustache on her and dressing her in Hitler’s outfit as Republicans have done to Obama. But hey! POUTRAGE allows clowns to hide their empty chairs from the public. You’ll vote for Mitt if you feel sorry for him, right?
Never fear, Haley is hardly a shrinking violet of grace — she shot back, “Dick Harpootlian is an angry, hateful man that continues to embarrass South Carolina every time he opens his mouth.” Yes, angry and hateful are so much better than a metaphor!
Never mind those pictures hanging in actual Republican Party offices photoshopped to remake Obama as Hitler, or the same pictures being carried by tea party members as they protested against Obamacare while demanding the government stay out of their Medicare.
Remember Barney Frank’s response to the tea partier with the Obama Hitler sign?
You want me to answer the question? Yes. As you stand there with a picture of the President defaced to look like Hitler and compare the effort to increase health care to the Nazis, my answer to you is as I said before, it is a tribute to the First Amendment that this kind of vile, contemptible nonsense is so freely propagated. Ma’am, trying to have a conversation with you would be like trying to argue with a dining room table. I have no interest in doing it.
I think y’all know by now that first amendment rights are for Rush Limbaugh, corporations, and Republicans, but not for You People. Shame!
Or this, from a month ago:
“History has a way of repeating itself: Stalin, Hitler, Mao Tse Tung and now Obama!!!” wrote Dr. Marisha Agana, the Republican candidate for Ohio’s 13th congressional district seat, via Twitter.
Or this, from the national party (note it starts off, “The Republicans have once again recruited Hitler”):
The Republicans have once again recruited Hitler to their campaign against the reforms initiated by their Democratic rivals. The National Republican Congressional Committee used a popular online social network this week to promote a video in which Hitler appears to endorse House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Using the social networking Web site Twitter, the NRCC posted a link to a video, with the message “Funny Video: Moonbattery: Hitler Reacts to ObamaCare Maneuvers”
In the clip, phony subtitles attached to a scene from the 2004 Hitler biopic Der Untergang (The Downfall), appear to have Hitler praising Pelosi and voicing disappointment with U.S. President Barack Obama’s revisions to his socialized medicine plan.
Or this, from the head of the North Iowa Tea Party:
A spokesman for the North Iowa Tea Party said he blamed the “power of image” for creating the wave of negative publicity after the group posted a controversial billboard last week.
Bob Johnson said “lessons were learned” from the negative reaction elicited by the sign featuring President Barack Obama next to Adolf Hitler and Vladimir Lenin.
Over Hitler’s image was the phrase, “National Socialism,” and over Lenin’s photograph was “Marxist Socialism.” Over Obama was the phrase, “Democrat Socialism.”
Yes, he said the comparison to Hitler was justified because of the — “socialism”. I kid you not. I can go on with these examples all night, but I need to get my FemiNazi on and watch the “vagina monologues”, known outside of CNN’s Erick Erickson’s clownery as the DNC.
Mitt Romney can’t stand up to Donald Trump, Rush Limbaugh, or the Tea Party, but he expects the President of the United States to fight his battles for him — run down to the bunker where Haley is hiding and order some fellow from South Carolina to stop using metaphors. But Mitt is okay with Rush Limbaugh calling all of us women FemiNazis, because calling someone an actual Nazi is much better than suggesting that they are behaving like the mistress of Hitler.
Romney’s argument is that it’s okay when his party does it, and it’s okay when Rush Limbaugh calls Sandra Fluke a slut and a prostitute, but it’s not okay if Democrats are not nice to Republicans. Hey, at least this micro episode from South Carolina gave Mitt the opportunity to pretend to stand up to someone. He is so not cardboard, you evil FemiNazis.
I don’t know. I’m thinking Mitt is right. Obama should fight all of Mitt’s battles for him, since Mr. Romney can’t even stand up to his own party and yet he is so easily offended.
Still, y’all better play nice or Mitt might cut your hair!
Someone needs to tell Republicans that in order for their poutrage to hold water, they probably shouldn’t be engaging in daily attacks on the President’s birth place, his religion, his “otherness”, calling him a Fascist, Socialist, Kenyan, Muslim, Hitler as a course of business, or accusing him of death panels for years.
The Little Boys that cried wolf one too many times are going to throw a huge fit if you do not feel sorry for them!
Please do not feed the victim complex of your local Republican. Watching them climb atop the cross to wail about their mistreatment is so 2008 Palin. Can’t we have a new show this election?
