Are you already thinking ahead to the holiday season? Well, Sarah Palin hopes that you are, as her publisher Harper Collins has announced that her latest book, America By Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag will hit stores right in time for the holiday shopping season on November 23. Not since someone thought Alvin and the Chipmunks deserved a squeakquel has there been such a blatant cash grab.
Her publisher Harper Collins describes the book as, “Framed by her strong belief in the importance of family, faith, and patriotism, the book ranges widely over American history, culture, and current affairs, and reflects on the key values—both national and spiritual-that have been such a profound part of Governor Palin’s life and continue to inform her vision of America’s future. Written in her own refreshingly candid voice, America By Heart will include selections from classic and contemporary readings that have moved her-from the nation’s founding documents to great speeches, sermons, letters, literature and poetry, biography, and even some of her favorite songs and movies.”
Of course what would a Palin book be without exploitation, “Here, too, are portraits of some of the extraordinary men and women she admires and who embody her deep love of country, her strong rootedness in faith, and her profound love and appreciation of family. She will also draw from personal experience to amplify these timely (and timeless) themes—themes that are sure to inspire her numerous fans and readers all across the country.”
If the premise for this book sounds familiar, it should. This is the same gimmick that her Fox News program Real American Stories was based on. The show that was such a bomb on Fox that it made Greta Van Susteren look like a ratings powerhouse by comparison. She is taking the same failed concept to print. One only hopes that this time she hires a more professional ghost writer, so that her incoherent ramblings actually make a bit of sense.
Sarah Palin and the people pulling the levers behind her money making machine both seem to be under the delusion that we are living in the year 1984, and she is Ronald Reagan. The whole faith, family, and flag genre is such a rip off of Reagan that one wonders if Palin has taken to keeping a jar of jelly beans on her desk, but as they found out with Real American Stories, the mood of the country has changed, and most people are not drawn to a faux Ronald Reagan wanna be.
As long as Palin and her handlers keep giving her books away for pennies on the dollar to conservative and right wing groups, the sales numbers will continue to look good, but it is a pretty safe bet that if you stop by your local book store in December, you will see plenty of copies of America By Heart collecting dust. If you have someone in your life who you really really hate, but find yourself forced to give a gift to, stop by your local bargain book bin around December 23 and pick them up a copy of America By Heart. It is the perfect way to tell those you can’t stand to go f**k themselves.
