Today on his radio show, Glenn Beck warned that the Obama White House is trying to isolate Fox News, and he compared the network that he works for the National Enquirer, which could be the most accurate thing that Glenn Beck has ever uttered on his radio show.
Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:
Beck said, “This is not about an attack on Fox and an attack on me. The reason why you have to understand this is because this is the beginning. If the media, the other journalists don’t stand up for the right to dissent, we’re in trouble. If Fox can be isolated and called a non news organization, then what happens when we break a story like ACORN? Nobody believes it, nobody reports on it. It’s the same thing that happens when the National Enquirer pounds for a year, he’s got a love child, he’s got a love child, he’s got a love child, and nobody does anything about it because it is the National Enquirer. They’re completely out of the loop. Well that’s what they’re trying to do, and anybody who stands up against this president will be out of the loop, or destroyed.
The comparison of FNC to the National Enquirer is an interesting one, especially coming from Glenn Beck. On the surface, it would appear that this is an insult to the Enquirer. The National Enquirer has demonstrated more fact checking ability then Beck and FNC ever have. The problem with Beck’s comparison is that no one put the National Enquirer out of the loop. It has always existed out of the mainstream.
Fox News has blurred the line between activism and journalism, but Beck conveniently ignores the Republican activism of Fox News. Beck, FNC, and the National Enquirer all practice tabloid journalism. The difference is that the National Enquirer doesn’t pretend like it is something that it isn’t.
