Glenn Beck returned to his radio show today, and continued to play the race card, except now he has labeled MSNBC a racist network, because the network was talking about the angry white crowds protesting healthcare reform. We have one black guy with a gun, among a crowd of white faces, but MSNBC is racist.
Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:
Beck said, “Story after story after story is all about the angry rebellious radical rabble rousers gun toting mobs. Did you see the story that they had last week? Somebody told me about it, I haven’t seen it…The story that GE ran, I’m sorry MSNBC ran last week on the guy who carried the gun, the automatic weapon, and is it true that they were painting this as a white angry mob and the guy who was carrying the gun was black?…Excuse me isn’t that racism, when you speak in generalities? Isn’t that racism?”
The problem for Beck is that he isn’t telling his listeners the entire story. According to the AP, a dozen people showed up with guns, only one of which was black, and even more importantly, the people with the guns were not protesting healthcare. They were there in favor of their Second Amendment rights. The gun with the gun said, “In Arizona, I still have some freedoms.”
It is obvious that this is Beck’s attempt to take the heat off of himself for calling Obama a racist. His not so subtle point is that MSNBC is really racist, but advertisers aren’t leaving them. This all feeds into his paranoid delusion that powerful people are out to get him. His warped attempt at passing the buck on to MSNBC doesn’t fly, because it isn’t accurate.
Ladies and gents, I think we have our first bit of evidence that the boycott is getting to Glenn Beck. It is only a matter of time until he goes off on a rant about how he was singled out and persecuted for speaking the truth.
He is going to claim that racism is all through the liberal media, and that “powerful people” are trying to silence him. This will only appeal to his devoted fans, because I think that Glenn Beck will forever be known as the man who called the first black U.S. president a racist.
