On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh continued to stoke the fires of racism by claiming that white policemen are under assault from Obama. Limbaugh drew his conclusion from Obama’s comments about the Henry Gates case during his press conference last night.
Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:
Limbaugh said, “Last week we saw white firefighters under assault by agents of Barack Obama and Sonia Sotomayor, talking about Frank Ricci and the boys from New Haven, they were under assault during the Sotomayor confirmation hearings. Groups went out there trying to destroy these guys. Now white policemen are under assault from the East Room of the White House by the President of the United States, after admitting that he didn’t know all the facts. He didn’t know what went on in there, but the cops acted stupidly. I haven’t seen this much racism in a liberal enclave since the Duke Lacrosse case.”
Here is the video of Obama’s original answer:

It is quite an inaccurate leap of logic on Limbaugh’s part to suggest that all white policemen are under assault because Obama said that one policeman acted stupidly in one instance. Limbaugh did bring up the point that something probably happened in that house that we don’t know about. Of course, in a different segment of his show Rush claimed that Gates wanted to be arrested.
Since the disorderly conduct charge was dropped, apparently Gates didn’t do anything wrong, but there has to be more to this story than what we have heard so far. This story does bring up one of the problems that Barack Obama has. Obama feels that he has to answer every question, which is a refreshing change from the previous administration, which kept the American people on a need to know basis about everything, but sometimes Obama would be better off giving the bland general answer instead of a thoughtful response.
Limbaugh’s charge that white policemen are under assault from Obama is more race baiting on his part. This all feeds into his reverse racism theory about Obama. I am sure that this stuff plays well with his white man listeners, but they aren’t doing the GOP any favors. I don’t know. Maybe when Rush calls Obama a racist, it helps him to feel better about his own racism.
