Jim Cramer: Jon Stewart Should Thank Me

It has been months since CNBC’s Jim Cramer went on Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show, and had one of the worst performances in cable history, and the Mad Money host still isn’t letting it go. Cramer now claims that if Stewart knew all of the things he has done he would have thanked him.

When asked if he regretted going on The Daily Show, Cramer told Time Magazine, “No one wants to suffer a beat-down. No one wants to be humiliated or embarrassed. I was shocked at [host Jon Stewart’s] behavior. I wish he knew about my background, and I wish he knew about a lot of things that I had done, because I think he would’ve thanked me instead of attacked me.”

Cramer once again played the good company man and defended CNBC, “I think CNBC’s done a remarkable job and I think the attack on CNBC and the attacks on me were gravely misplaced. It was rather remarkable in that it was so clear that his goal was to just destroy me. One day he’ll answer for it.”

I like both Jim Cramer and Jon Stewart, but Cramer needs to stop talking about this. It is over. It is done. Take your beating like a man and move on. It seems like Jim Cramer is still doing damage control, when there is no reason to. CNBC’s ratings have been up. The only reason I can think of for Cramer to continue this is that his ego was severely damaged by the confrontation.

What exactly should Jon Stewart and the rest of America thank Jim Cramer for? I think it is fitting to thank Cramer for having one of the most entertaining programs on cable, but should we thank him for loads of terrible financial advice? Cramer wasn’t the only one who was wrong about the markets, so I am not singling him out, but it is quite egotistical of him to think that he deserves to be thanked by anyone.

Cramer will probably never get his reputation back, and it can be debated whether or not he should. The Daily Show appearance is going to haunt Cramer for the rest of his career, so he needs heal his bruised ego, develop a stock answer, and stop trying to earn redemption through the media. The only other option is for Cramer and Stewart to sit down and talk again, but I don’t see the point in that.
