Biden Guarantees American National Security

Last updated on July 18th, 2023 at 11:17 am

The feud between the Obama administration and former vice president Dick Cheney took another step today as current vice president Joe Biden blasted Cheney. He said that Cheney was dead wrong on national security, and he guaranteed that America is safer under the Obama administration.

Here is the video:

Biden responded to Cheney’s comments on CNN’s The Situation Room, “I don’t think [Cheney] is out of line, but he is dead wrong. This administration — the last administration left us in a weaker posture than we’ve been any time since World War II: less regarded in the world, stretched more thinly than we ever have been in the past, two wars under way, virtually no respect in entire parts of the world.” He escalated the rhetoric by saying, “I guarantee you we are safer today, our interests are more secure today than they were any time during the eight years.”

The only surprise here is that it took Biden this long reignite his feud with Cheney. Remember, that Cheney has already accused Biden of weakening the office of the vice president. These two confrontational personalities are political polar opposites, so the tough talk between the two should be expected. I am very uneasy with national security guarantees, like the one that Biden made. The reality is that national security policy only goes so far to protect the nation.

It takes a degree of luck to keep America safe. If one terrorist attack occurs, Biden is setting the administration up for major criticism. I don’t think that any member of an administration can guarantee national security. Is America safer by getting out of Iraq? Probably but there are no guarantees that another major attack won’t happen, I think that Vice President Biden’s penchant of exaggerated political statements got the best of him here, and it is only a matter of time until the administration puts out a statement backing off of Biden’s “guarantee.”
