Fox News: Obama’s European Trip proves that He Hates America

Last updated on August 10th, 2014 at 05:45 pm

Only Fox News could possibly label President Obama’s comment that America has shown arrogance in the past as a controversy, but the network is all a tizzy, because Obama condemned former President Bush’s black hat/white hat foreign policy. Of course they leave out Obama’s remarks that also criticized Europe’s anti-Americanism.

Here is the video compilation courtesy of Think Progress:

The video features former Bush administration officials Karl Rove and John Bolton, along with GOP second and third stringers Mike Huckabee and Steve Forbes. There is also right wing talker Michael Medved, and, of course, the centerpiece of the attack is FNC’s own Sean Hannity. The problem with the FNC attack is that it completely leaves out the rest of Obama’s remark made at a town hall meeting in France.

What FNC is ignoring is that Obama also said, “But in Europe there’s an anti-Americanism that is at once casual but can also be insidious. Instead of recognizing the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what’s bad. On both sides of the Atlantic these attitudes have become all too common.” I don’t remember any Republican president going to Europe and calling them out on their anti-Americanism.

The right wing is so desperate for something to use against Obama that they are more than happy to slice his comments in half, and use their editing as an attack against the president. This is a tried and true Republican tactic. Any Democratic president that is popular internationally is deemed to be less patriotic. Notice that this standard doesn’t apply to popular Republican presidents. If a Republican president is liked by the international community, they are statesmen. It is kind of sad to watch the right wing flailing and grasping at anything to use as a weapon against Obama.
