Conservatives Blast Obama Inaugural’s Carbon Footprint

Last updated on August 10th, 2014 at 11:58 pm

The conservative group the Institute for Liberty (IFL) is calling Democrats hypocrites on the issue of global warming because they estimated that President Elect Barack Obama inauguration will produce 575 million pounds of CO2.

Their statistics are, as they admit not scientific, but the group estimates that the Obama inaugural will produce record amounts of CO2 due to, “The 600 private jets expected to fly visitors to and from the event will produce 25,320,000 POUNDS of CO2. Personal vehicles could account for 262,483,200 POUNDS of CO2. In the Inaugural parade, horses alone will produce more than 400 POUNDS of CO2. The total carbon footprint for the Inauguration will likely exceed 575 million POUNDS of CO2. It would take the average U.S. household 57,598 years to produce a carbon footprint equal to that of the new president’s housewarming party.”

“The Inauguration of President Obama is truly an historic occasion that should be celebrated,” said IFL President Andrew Langer. “However, it would be very hypocritical for the scores of celebrities, VIPs and political elites to lecture on environmental policy to middle America and small businesses that are merely trying to survive in these difficult economic times, and then turn around and contribute to the half-billion pounds of emitted CO2. This is a celebration — DC’s small businesses, and thus DC’s working families, are going to greatly benefit from this event. The rest of America should share in that opportunity.”

This is a group that thinks cap and trade systems are a scam, and they still continues to engage in the scientific debate about global warming. If you were wondering who the people that supported Sarah Palin were, look no farther than the IFL.

Here is how the group describes their energy policy,” Instead of increasing the cost of energy by regulating or taxing Americans, political leaders should heed the saying, “Drill, baby, drill.” Expanding access to America’s domestic resources will increase energy security and provide a means of keeping the price of foreign energy sources down. This will unleash U.S. economic growth instead of further stunting output and investment by imposing punitive and unproductive policies.”

The IFL conveniently that the nation’s domestic supply does not equal it’s demand for energy, so am I to assume that the IFL favors continued subsidy of nations like Saudi Arabia, where the 9/11 terrorists came from? Federal statistics show that we produce enough domestically to meet our demand, so the energy has to come from somewhere. Maybe the IFL likes Hugo Chavez.

What I can be certain of is that their fairy tale solution will only serve to make America more dependent on foreign oil, so drill baby drill and in 10-15 years when you finally start to tap into to the nation’s 3 year supply of oil, you can all pat yourselves on the back. The IFL’s report is nothing more than an attempt by conservatives to make themselves feel better about their election loss.
