Add A New Article To Impeachment As Trump Awards G7 To Himself

Trump’s chief of staff Mick Mulvaney announced that the G7 summit will be held at Trump failing Doral golf club in Florida.

To put it mildly, Mulvaney’s explanation for why the G7 will be held at a Trump property was less than convincing.

Mulvaney said, “Yeah, to your first point, uh, again, I think — the profit, again, he’s not making money off of this just like he’s not making money working here. If you think it’s going to help his brand, that’s great, I would suggest he would probably not need much help promoting his brand. Let’s put profit aside and deal with the perfect place. Trump stands to make millions and millions of dollars off of the G7 being hosted at his club. Revenue has plummeted at Doral since Trump bought it. The club is so broke that Trump is forcing members who want to quit to wait 85 years to get their money back.

House Democrats are already exploring ways to potentially block funding for a Trump hosted G7.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said that his committee is already investigating Trump’s decision to award the G7 to himself.

Nadler said, “The Administration’s announcement that President Trump’s Doral Miami resort will be the site of the next G7 summit is among the most brazen examples yet of the President’s corruption. He is exploiting his office and making official U.S. government decisions for his personal financial gain. The Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution exist to prevent exactly this kind of corruption. The Committee will continue investigating, litigating and legislating regarding these matters—including pressing for answers to our prior requests about the G7 selection process—but we will not allow this latest abuse of power to distract from Congress’ efforts to get to the bottom of the President’s interference in the 2020 election.â€
