Fire and rescue teams showed up at the home of Parkland shooting survivor and gun control advocate David Hogg after someone called in a fake hostage situation at the family’s residence.
ABC 10 News in Miami reported:
The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was “swatted” Tuesday morning, causing police to respond to their Parkland home.A call came into the Broward Sheriff’s Office claiming a hostage situation at the home. Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington, DC with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.
Many swattings are malicious pranks pulled on celebrities for attention, but Hogg is an outspoken student advocate for gun control after he and other Stoneman Douglas High School students survived the Parkland school. Hogg, along with the other students leading the movement, has been vilified by the NRA and the pro-gun extremists for their demand for safe schools where students don’t have to worry about being shot as they attend class.
“Swatting” is not a harmless prank. It is a crime, and if Hogg was targeted due to his gun control advocacy, it only shows how desperate the NRA and their allies are to silence him.
