Thanks To Rachel Maddow, MSNBC Is More Trusted Than Trump

A new poll shows that the American people trust MSNBC more than they trust Trump as a source of information.

The Monmouth University Poll found, “The Monmouth University Poll also finds that Pres. Trump is trusted less as source of information than three cable news outlets – except if you ask Republicans. Nearly half the American public (48%) trusts CNN more than Trump, compared with one-third (35%) who trust Trump more than CNN and another 13% who trust both equally as a source of information. The results are similar when Trump is pitted against the left-leaning MSNBC – 45% trust MSNBC more, 32% trust Trump more, and 16% trust both equally. The right-leaning Fox News also bests the president as a trusted information source – 30% trust Fox more and 20% trust Trump more, although a plurality of 37% trust both equally.”

As the face of MSNBC, and the hub of the network’s programming wheel much of the trust that people feel toward the network comes from Maddow. That’s not to say that Maddow is the only reason why people trust the network more than Trump. MSNBC has a staff of anchors and reporters that are very credible. From morning until midnight, MSNBC has done an excellent job of rebuilding itself around quality journalists.

Trump is having success in discrediting journalism as a profession. More Americans than ever think that mainstream outlets spread “fake news.” Trump has attacked journalism and press freedom enough that he has weakened trust in reporting.

The president has endlessly attacked the press, which has not helped him gain in trust, but it has lowered the overall trust level of people in what they are seeing, hearing, and reading.

MSNBC has built a credible news operation, and one of the main reasons why has been the fact-based and understated reporting of Rachel Maddow. For more discussion about this story join our Rachel Maddow and MSNBC group.
