The ranking Democratic member of the House Judiciary Committee is calling for an emergency meeting between the FBI and the Justice Department over the scam memo crafted by Republican Rep. Devin Nunes.
According to The Hill, “Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) wrote to chairman Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) on Thursday to call for an immediate meeting with officials from the FBI and Department of Justice over the claims made in the memo,” which is expected to be released on Friday.
In a tweet containing a copy of the letter, Nadler said, “I’ve requested that @HouseJudiciary immediately call FBI Director Wray and other DOJ representatives to appear on an emergency basis before the Committee and brief us about their concerns regarding the #NunesMemo.”

“It is imperative that we hear directly from these officials about the security and law enforcement implications of making this information public,” the Democrat said. “It is also important that we hear about any inaccuracies or key omissions from the Nunes document.”
As Nadler noted in the letter, there are two major concerns about the release of this memo: 1. The impacts it has on American national security, which Republicans have stopped pretending to care about; and 2. The fact that Nunes has intentionally left out key info in order to perpetuate a false narrative to protect Donald Trump.
Just this week, the FBI took the unprecedented step of condemning the GOP effort to release the memo.
“With regard to the House Intelligence Committee’s memorandum, the FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it,” the FBI said in a statement. “As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”
Nonetheless, Donald Trump indicated on Thursday that he will give the all-clear for the memo’s release. As CNN reported, the president sees its release as a way to derail Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation once and for all.
Ultimately, that’s what this disturbing Republican effort is all about: Protecting the president because if and when he goes down, the GOP knows they will be brought down with him.
In the process, they are undermining the work of our intelligence community and doing lasting damaging to the republic. Democrats are right to raise hell about it before the damage is irreversible.
