After promising the American people that his visit to his Mar-a-Lago club would not be a vacation, Donald Trump hit the golf course for a fourth straight day on Saturday.
As The Hill reported on Saturday, “Trump departed his Mar-a-Lago resort at 7:45 a.m. Saturday and arrived at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach 10 minutes later, according to pool reports.”
According to NBC News, which has been tracking Trump’s visits to his properties, this is the 80th day during his young presidency that he’s golfed at one of his clubs. In total, he has spent 102 days total at one of his properties.
If you’re keeping score at home, Trump has spent more than a quarter of his presidency on a golf course and a third at one of his ritzy properties.
Trump’s latest golf outing comes after the White House and Trump himself were emphatic that his long weekend at Mar-a-Lago was not a vacation.
As Politico noted earlier this week, “Trump and his aides insisted that the president would use his time at what they’ve dubbed the ‘Winter White House’ to make progress on tax reform and other top priorities.”
On Wednesday, just ahead of his trip to Florida, White House staff slipped up and told the truth, saying the president’s schedule would be “low-key.” They quickly tried to clean up their mess, saying: “While the White House communications staff expects the press pool to have a ‘low-key day,’ the president will NOT have a low-key day and has a full schedule of meetings and phone calls.”
Trump also tweeted this ahead of his vacation:
Will be having meetings and working the phones from the Winter White House in Florida (Mar-a-Lago). Stock Market hit new Record High yesterday – $5.5 trillion gain since E. Many companies coming back to the U.S. Military building up and getting very strong.

Like Trump’s repeated campaign promises to never play golf if he was elected, his pledge to work during his trip to Mar-a-Lago was clearly nothing but bluster that no one other than his dwindling number of supporters will believe.
Instead, he has spent the entire weekend practicing his chip shot and tweeting all kinds of nonsense, including fresh attacks on the NFL and a bizarre claim that he “took a pass” on Time Magazine’s offer to do a photo shoot and interview in exchange for “probably” being named Person of the Year.
The irony of Trump of Trump spending so much of his presidency golfing is something to behold. But maybe it’s a blessing in disguise that a president so demonstrably unstable and incompetent is taking time away from the job.
