Six senior officials who are currently working inside the Trump administration painted a picture of a president who is full of crazy ideas whose wild impulses have to be killed by the more reasonable people in his administration.
Axios reported:
We talked to a half dozen senior administration officials, who range from dismayed but certain to stay, to disgusted and likely soon to leave. They all work closely with Trump and his senior team so, of course, wouldn’t talk on the record. Instead, they agreed to let us distill their thinking/rationale:
“You have no idea how much crazy stuff we kill”: The most common response centers on the urgent importance of having smart, sane people around Trump to fight his worst impulses. If they weren’t there, they say, we would have a trade war with China, massive deportations, and a government shutdown to force construction of a Southern wall.
The answer from the White House officials confirms several points that have long been suspected about Trump. The President does want to carry out a program of mass deportations of immigrants. He is aching to destroy the US economy with a trade war, and he is willing to shut down the government for force Congress to pay for the wall that Mexico was supposed to pay for.
When White House officials are saying we need sane people here because the President’s ideas are nuts, that is a big warning sign to the American people that the man occupying the Oval Office is not well. Trump’s natural inclination is to staff the White House with unqualified sycophants, think The Mooch as communications director. The problem is that few sane and qualified people want to work for a mentally unstable president.
The White House officials didn’t say that Trump is unfit for office, but they are painting a picture of a president who is a danger to his own country.
