Jeff Sessions’ Own Task Force Kills His Buzz On Legalized Pot Crackdown

Attorney General Jeff Sessions wants to attack the legal marijuana industry, but the AG’s own task force has shot him down.

The AP reported, “The Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety, a group of prosecutors and federal law enforcement officials, has come up with no new policy recommendations to advance the attorney general’s aggressively anti-marijuana views. The group’s report largely reiterates the current Justice Department policy on marijuana. It encourages officials to keep studying whether to change or rescind the Obama administration’s more hands-off approach to enforcement — a stance that has allowed the nation’s experiment with legal pot to flourish. The report was not slated to be released publicly, but portions were obtained by the AP.”

Sessions, whose views on legalized pot are best described as a cross between Sgt. Joe Friday on Dragnet:

and Reefer Madness:

has been absolutely aching to attack the marijuana legalization movement since he took office.

The Attorney General’s war on pot has been part of a larger theme of the Trump administration. The Trump White House is trying to undo every shred of progress that occurred over the last eight years with the goal of taking American back to the 1950s.

Just like on the health care issue, the facts on legalized marijuana don’t match the ideological zeal of the administration.

For a White House that loves to talk about states’ rights, Trump and his team spend a lot of time trying to take rights, including the right to legalize marijuana, away from the states.

Just like everything else associated with Trump, the rebooted War on Drugs is destined to fail.
