Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) leads Donald Trump in a new poll 49%-39%, as the reeling president is getting swallowed by his Russia scandal.
According to PPP:
2020 General Election:
Biden 54%
Trump 40%Sanders 52%
Trump 39%Warren 49
Trump 39Franken 46
Trump 38Booker 46

The numbers for Biden and Sanders are mostly fueled by name recognition. The odds are against one or both of the top two performers in the poll running in 2020 because will both be pushing 80 years old. What is most telling about Trump’s political weakness is that less known among the broader electorate candidates like Sens. Warren, Franken, and Booker also lead Trump in the poll.
Al Franken has made no moves that could be interpreted as preparing for a 2020 bid, but Warren and Booker are two names that are frequently mentioned as potential candidates.
It is important to note that polls are snapshots of a current moment in electoral politics. What a poll reveals today will change over time.
There is a reason why Trump and his White House are so worried about Elizabeth Warren. She generates the sort of passion that Republicans fear with a deeply populist message that plays well with the voters that Trump has been lying to for the last couple of years.
There are clear signs that the Russia scandal is a drag on Trump. The President trails every Democrat he was polled against by at least seven points. Trump is a deeply unpopular president who got into the White House based on 78,000 votes in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.
Democrats could be in a plum position to take back the White House, and out of the candidates who have a realistic chance of running, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) looks like the clear Democratic frontrunner.
Trump’s fake populism could face the real deal if Warren runs in 2020.
