The Republican Party is tearing itself to pieces. The party’s frontrunner (Donald Trump) and news network (Fox News) are in the process of destroying each other and turning the GOP into a pile of smoldering rubble.
During an interview on CNN, Trump went on another whine fest about Fox News’s Megyn Kelly.
Trump said, “I mean, I don’t like her. She doesn’t treat me fairly. I’m not a big fan of hers at all. I don’t care. She was — she probably was — I might be the best thing that ever happened to her. I don’t know, because who ever even heard of her before the last debate? But I thought she was very unfair in the last debate. A lot of people said I won that debate. Everybody said I won the last debate. But I’m not a fan of Megyn Kelly. I don’t like her. She probably doesn’t like me. And that’s OK. But she better be fair. I would like to go to the debate. I enjoy the debates. I have done well in the debates. Every single poll has said I have won every debate. But we are going to see what happens. Going to be exciting.”
Trump threatened to boycott the upcoming Republican primary debate on Fox News if Megyn Kelly was a moderator.
Fox News fired back and Trump and said that the Republican frontrunner fears Kelly, “Sooner or later Donald Trump, even if he’s president, is going to have to learn that he doesn’t get to pick the journalists — we’re very surprised he’s willing to show that much fear about being questioned by Megyn Kelly.”
The dominant source of news for Republican voters is nearing a state of open warfare with the Republican frontrunner. Some on the left have suspected that Trump and Fox are playing off each other in an attention-getting con, but the Trump’s constant cry babying about Kelly reveals a big problem for the GOP.
Donald Trump really does think that he can pick the journalists. Throughout his campaign, Trump has banned journalists from covering him who he views as “not friendly.” Donald Trump can’t handle non-softball questions. Any tough question is viewed by Trump as a personal attack. Trump’s inability to handle the media, along with the fact that he has successfully divided the Fox News audience is going to make spreading a unifying message next to impossible for the Republican Party.
Roger Ailes and Rupert Murdoch are desperate to get a Republican back in the White House. They view Trump as a loser who can’t win the White House. It has been clear for the last few months that Fox News has been throwing nothing but positive coverage at Marco Rubio. The bosses at Fox are pushing Rubio and would love to get rid of Trump.
The Republican Party is destroying itself. There is no unity anywhere within the GOP. Donald Trump is burning the former party of Lincoln to the ground, and he is taking Fox News down with him.
