A group of protesters interrupted the Supreme Court today to protest the court’s previous decisions that empowered the hostile takeover of the American electoral process by millionaires and billionaires.
The disruption occurred after the justices had been seated for oral arguments in a case about bankruptcy law. Chief Justice John Roberts quipped that he didn’t know that the hearing on such a mundane topic “would attract such attention,” the AP reported.
He reportedly also then said, as more protesters rose, that they could be charged with contempt.
Activist group 99Rise claimed responsibility for the protest.”
“The Supreme Court is deeply complicit in the corruption of our democracy,” Belinda Rodriguez, 24, said in a statement. The group said she took part in the protests.

The conservative justices on the Supreme Court are willfully ignorant of the real world consequences of their money in politics decisions. The Koch brothers have infiltrated the Supreme Court to accomplish what the people would have never allowed through the legislative process.
Protesting inside the Supreme Court is an extreme method of getting the message out, but people need to understand what is at stake. Citizens United was never about free speech. What the Supreme Court’s campaign finance decisions have done is empowered the wealthy, while disempowering the individuals who are supposed to be represented by our elected politicians.
People are standing up, as they aren’t going to let their government be sold without a fight.
